The formula
Area = perimeter × height + gables × ½ × width × height − openings
Squares = area × (1 + waste) ÷ 100

Tips before you order
- Order trim, J-channel, corners and soffit separately.
- Add 10–15% waste depending on the number of windows and corners.
Questions
How many squares of siding for a 2,000 sq ft house?
It depends on wall height and layout, not floor area — measure the walls. A simple two-story 2,000 ft² house often has 20–25 squares of wall.
